Pines and Prairies’ FREE Nature Classes are back! Join us November 18th at the Colorado River Refuge for a morning outdoors!
This year we are adding a program for middle school and high school students in addition to our regular program for younger students. Each month the older students will be studying different aspects of water. In addition to this lesson they will also test the Colorado River as part of Colorado River Water Network which is within the LCRA. By collecting water quality data we are able to monitor changes in the river over time and protect it.
The younger students will continue to have new topics each week with a lesson, hike and activity. In November this group will Focus on Feathers: feathers are the features that differentiate birds from all other forms of life! Let’s look closely at feather structure, learn to identify different kinds of feathers, and try sketching a feather just for fun!
Please wear close toed shoes and bring a water bottle.
We are meeting at the outdoor classroom: 375 Riverside Dr, Bastrop, TX 78602.
Please arrive by 9:50 so we can begin promptly at 10:00. Classes go until approximately 12:00.
The health of you, your children and our teachers are of the utmost importance to us. Because of this and the increasing rate of coronavirus cases we have some additional requests for you and your students. Please plan to bring a mask. We will wear masks during check-in, the first group lesson and any other times when social distancing is not possible. This is required for both vaccinated and unvaccinated folks over the age of two. Obviously if you, your children or anyone you have been in contact with has felt ill please stay home. If the circumstances change considerably before the class we may update our protocol.
