Many people miss hiking, bird watching, and picnicking during this time of coronavirus. Pines and Prairies Land Trust is excited to open Billig Ranch for a day outside with your family or friends, without the crowds. Billig Ranch is our largest preserve with over 650 acres of woodlands, ponds and prairie restoration.
In order to prevent irresponsible crowding at the preserve this event will be by donation. Anyone who makes a donation before the event on the 14th or has made a donation in the last year is invited. You may make a donation online today or bring cash or a check to the event!
Timing: You are free to come and go as you please from 2:00-6:30. We will encourage people to leave as it gets dark. Melanie Pavlas will be leading a guided hike at 3:00 on the prairie restoration projects, it will be limited to 10 people.
Directions: The event is at 208 Billig Ln, Paige, TX 78659. You will turn onto Billig Lane from 144/Railroad Track Rd. You will drive down the lane for quite some time, pass through a gate, and turn left at the end of the lane and park near the barn. There will be a check in table where a board member will greet you. Billig lane is a gravel and dirt road, not paved. Please drive slowly. If you need you can park along 144 and walk up Billig Lane.
To do: You are welcome to hike the three different trails we have prepared. A map is attached to this email showing you the roads, check in area, and trails. There will be a document available at check in which explains the three different prairie projects we have going on. You may want to bring binoculars for birding, a warm jacket, or picnic dinner.
You are welcome to bring your friends and family with you to Billig Ranch!
Check in: Everyone needs to sign a waiver. You can do so at the check in table or you can fill one out ahead of time and bring it with you. The waiver is attached.
Facilities: There will be no bathrooms available at the preserve. Please bring a full water bottle. Wear closed toed shoes and long pants to avoid injuries from sharp grasses and plants.
If you have any questions or need help finding the preserve on Saturday call Melanie at 512-308-1911.
In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus we ask that you maintain six feet of distance from other groups at the preserve, that you wear a face covering while you check in, and that you stay home if you are feeling unwell.
