Please join us for a different kind of workday at Yegua Knobbs Preserve to support a prescribed burn we have scheduled early next year. This burn is part of a sitewide habitat restoration project. We will create a shaded firebreak by hand clearing brush and trimming up trees near the bog in a 12-15’ wide path. Melanie will discuss the project in more detail on site.
It’s going to be hot, so we will wrap up before noon and take breaks as needed. The worksite is about a 3/4 mile hike from the gate, but we can enjoy the wildflowers along the Sandylands Trail on our way in and even take a shaded hike back. Most of the work is in the shade as well.
Bring lots of water, tools (loppers, chain and hand saws, etc.) and wear long pants and shirts and closed-toe shoes. Please be aware that chiggers are out as well as snakes!
Please register here so I can prepare for the number attending and make sure you have good directions to the preserve. After registering, you’ll be automatically taken to our waiver, so please also fill that out for 2022 if you haven’t already done so!
