Bird City Event: "Little Hike” at the Refuge

  • Bastrop County Nature Park 375 Riverside Dr Bastrop, TX, 78602 United States (map)

Little hikes are a peaceful way to start your day in nature on the second Friday of each month.

Hosted by Bird City Bastrop and local birding partners, these easy, guided morning hikes happen at different parks and trails around the county, where expert birders help you spot and identify native and migratory birds while you walk.

This month, we are headed to the Cottonwood Kings Trail in the Colorado River Refuge

You’ll enjoy gentle scenery, learn birding basics, and can borrow binoculars if you don’t have your own.

Families and beginners are welcome, and each hike is a chance to see diverse bird species and connect with other nature enthusiasts in Bastrop’s bird-rich habitats.

Wear your long pants and boots, hats and sunscreen. Bring plenty of drinking water. Binoculars are provided!

Meet at the Bastrop County Park Parking Lot, 375 Riverside Drive

We recommend 2 apps:
1) Merlin Bird ID (by Cornell Lab) for identifying birds and
2) eBird (from Cornell Lab of Ornithology) for submitting your checklists of spotted birds.

Download apps, create an account, and then let the apps use your location to recommend a bird pack to download. Then explore!
