Kids' Nature Class - Bird Beaks & More

  • 375 Riverside Dr. Bastrop, TX 78602 (map)

Why is a hummingbird’s beak so long? Why is a hawk’s beak so sharp? In this hands-on class, kids will explore how different birds are specially designed to eat different foods. Through a fun (and slightly tricky!) beak challenge game, we’ll test which “beak” works best for seeds, insects, nectar, and more. Then we’ll make simple bird feeders to take home so you can see which backyard birds come to sample the menu!

About our classes:

Our nature classes are geared towards ages 6-16 and lead by our knowledgeable Lost Pines Master Naturalist volunteers. We meet in the Bastrop County Nature Park outdoor classroom. All students should be accompanied by an adult, and most adults choose to learn along with us! Classes are usually held on the third Wednesday of the month, with a break during the hottest summer months.
