Volunteer Stewardship Work at Yegua Knobbs Preserve #2

Yegua Knobbs Preserve (YKP) is a beautiful property over 300 acres with pine forests and open grassland just outside McDade. Lots of changes and programs are beginning at Yegua Knobbs Preserve and we need your help!

Volunteers are needed for a brush clearing project in a sensitive portion of the riparian area of YKP. The area is a potential habitat for Houston Toad and also an archaeological site. We will have an archaeologist and biologist onsite to discuss the resources significance, ongoing projects, and how this project supports resource protection. This is day two of a two day project. The 1st day is September 11th, you are welcome and encouraged to come to both!

PPLT recently received a grant from the Texas Preservation Trust Fund and The Summerlee Foundation to formally record and conserve a significant archaeology site at YKP. Volunteers will help us to carefully remove brush by hand to help uncover cultural features so that they can be properly recorded and legally protected. Given the sensitivity and nonrenewable nature of archaeological resources, volunteers will be asked to sign a participant ethics statement which outlines safeguards that protect this significant site. No special skills needed!
